Describe the cargo
Provide the commodity, packaging, piece or pallet count and total weight. Include the length, width and height of the shipment. Note any handling restrictions, loading orientation or cargo that cannot be stacked.
- For bulk material: include the material type and estimated weight or volume.
- For equipment: include photos, overall dimensions and available loading information.
- For palletized freight: include pallet sizes, count and total shipment weight.
Give the pickup and delivery details
Provide complete locations, site contacts and operating hours. Describe access restrictions, dock arrangements and how the freight will be loaded and unloaded.
Flag limited turning room, unusual site surfaces or restrictions on trailer combinations. For walking floor work, describe the unloading area and the material being discharged.
Share dates and appointment windows
Separate the date the cargo will be ready from the requested delivery date. Include booked appointments, receiving hours and any flexibility in the schedule. Dispatch reviews timing alongside the route and equipment requirements.
Explain special equipment requirements
If you need power-only service, include the trailer type, loaded or empty status, connection requirements and trailer identification. For PTO or wet line work, provide the manufacturer’s hydraulic requirements and connection details.
For B-Train transport, provide the proposed load distribution, total weight and details of site access and loading arrangements. Final equipment and route arrangements depend on the specific shipment.
Add cross-border information when relevant
For Canada–U.S. freight, share the commodity, origin and destination, customs broker contact and document readiness. Coordinate the shipment documents and responsibilities with your broker and dispatch before pickup.
